The Secession in Ferwerd took place on December 3, 1835 at 9 a.m. at the farm of Lammert K. Hogendijk. The day before, Rev. de Cock had arrived at Lammert's (and his mother Dieuke Oeges) home in Ferwerd. Lammert, along with Douwe M. Buursma and Fopke G. Steensma, had accompanied Rev. de Cock on his way from Minnertsga where he had instituted the Christian Reformed Church a couple of days before.
Rev. de Cock had only just begun the sermon or the police dropped in to check if the number of attendants was not beyong the allowed 20 persons. Since they did not find any irregularities the police left again. That morning 14 men and 6 women were registered as first members of the new congregation. One of them, gardener Jan Sybes Palma, was wellknown throughout the area for initiating and leading church services of the Seceders in Ferwerd. He was 63 years old in 1836 in which year he -being widower of Doetje W. Beintema- married to Jetske Hettes Miersma, a 48-year old widow from Marrum. Jan Sybes Palma had frequently organized services in her home.
